Maryland Surgeons, formerly Keith D. Falcao, MD, PA, was founded in 1979 to provide surgical services to southwest Baltimore and Columbia. As the populations in the area grew, so did the practice, growing into a multi-specialty group of board-certified surgeons. Our surgeons are trained in general surgery and in specialty surgery, including breast surgery, cancer surgery, colorectal surgery, endocrine surgery, general abdominal surgery, hernia surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and pancreatic and hepatobiliary (liver and bile-duct) surgery. Our physicians are on the active staff of the departments of surgery at Saint Agnes Hospital and Howard County General Hospital.
Our group strives to provide our patients with the latest advances in surgery and have all contributed to advancing surgery through research. We offer innovative surgical options to fit our patients’ needs, including hidden-scar breast surgery and the use of minimally invasive techniques.
We are deeply invested in our community and provide a productive environment for our patients, staff, and colleagues. Our surgeons have taken on many leadership roles that include President of the Medical Staff, Chief of General Surgery, Director of the Breast Center, Director of the Hernia Center, Director of Research, Director of Pancreatic and Hepatobiliary Surgery, and many have served and continue to serve on our hospitals’ Ethics Committee, Credentialing Committee, Breast Leadership Team, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Cancer Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, Graduate Medical Education Committee, Institutional Review Board, Robotic Surgery Committee, ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) Committee, and the Schwartz Committee for Compassionate Healthcare.
We also pride ourselves on being very active in surgical education. Not only do we see ourselves as life-long learners always on the cutting edge, but we also strive to provide education to resident surgeons and to the members of our community. Several of our surgeons have won "Best Teacher" awards. Our community education efforts have included several educational articles for patients, frequent presentations in community education settings, and online educational resources. We recognize the growing population and the need for expansion of our practice to meet those needs. Our goal is to provide excellent and compassionate care today while building for the future generations in our community.
Maryland Surgeons prides itself on our relationships with our patients. It is our goal to make every patient feel like our only patient, with every effort to tailor patient care and devise a plan that meets each patient's goals and desires.
The group consists of board-certified surgeons that includes both general surgeons and surgical specialists. Our specialists have completed fellowships in surgical oncology, colorectal surgery, pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, and others, as well as certification in stereotactic and ultrasound breast biopsy.
We work closely with other experts in a multidisciplinary fashion to provide the best care for our patients, especially for cancer care. In the treatment of our cancer patients we work closely with their oncologists and other experts to provide the best comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. Our fellowship-trained surgeons work with colleagues across Maryland from institutions such as the National Cancer Institute, University of Maryland, and Johns Hopkins University. Many of our specialists offer the most current clinical trials for our oncology patients.
Our surgeons adhere to the core values of our hospitals, striving for strong levels of service to the community and excellent patient care.
For more than 150 years, Saint Agnes Hospital has been dedicated to the art of healing by providing exceptional care to the greater Baltimore area. Built on a strong foundation of excellent medical care and compassion, Saint Agnes is committed to providing the best care for our patients for many years to come.
